Unauthorized Charge Dispute with SoFi: How AI Legalese Decoder can Help

I. Introduction
I bank with SoFi for my main checking account. Recently, I had an unauthorized charge hit my account for a gas station about 15 minutes from where I live. It was for $124. I immediately checked and I did still have my card, so I knew it must have been skimmed somewhere. Immediately, within 5 minutes of the charge, I cancelled everything, opened a dispute, and ordered a new card.

II. Unauthorized Charge Dispute
After about a week, they came back with the dispute decision and denied it due to the fact that earlier in the same day, I had used my card physically at a location (a restaurant) that was only 13 minutes away from where the disputed charge had occurred. In their eyes, this meant that this charge was not an error and I am wrongly disputing this charge.

III. AI Legalese Decoder Solution
AI Legalese Decoder can help in this situation by thoroughly examining the terms and conditions of the SoFi account and analyzing the legal rights of the account holder. It can also interpret complex legal language and policies, providing a detailed explanation of the reasoning behind SoFi’s decision and identifying any potential grounds for appeal.

IV. Reversing the Decision
What I donÔÇÖt seem to understand is that if someone skimmed my card, whether that be at the restaurant or a week earlier, why doesnÔÇÖt it make sense the skimmer would still be in the area? Why is this the reason itÔÇÖs being denied? AI Legalese Decoder can help in presenting a strong case based on logical reasoning and the potential modus operandi of the skimmer, highlighting the flaws in SoFi’s decision and emphasizing the urgency of reversing the decision in order to protect the account holder’s financial security.

V. Filing Complaints Against SoFi
What else can I do to help get this decision reversed? IÔÇÖve seen mentions of filing complaints against SoFi, will that make any progress and if so, who do I file a complaint to? AI Legalese Decoder can provide guidance and recommendations on the appropriate channels for filing complaints against financial institutions, ensuring that the complaint is directed to the relevant authorities and increasing the likelihood of a successful resolution.

VI. Conclusion
Any and all advice is appreciated! With the assistance of AI Legalese Decoder, navigating the complexities of the dispute process and advocating for the reversal of the decision becomes more manageable and effective, ultimately leading to a favorable outcome for the account holder.

    1. file a police report, this is so the bank will take you seriously
    2. contact the bank, speak with fraud/risk, and give them the number and ask for your complaint to be escalated
    3. if they refuse, file a complaint at [consumerfinance.gov](https://consumerfinance.gov) , this gets the government involved and usually someone higher up at the bank will be forced to respond

Debit cards are not protected like credit cards in terms of this kind of fraud unfortunately. You likely won’t have much luck.

File a claim with the OCC and give it two months. Capital one did the same to me for a fraudulent $8000 charge. I reported them to the OCC and capital one refunded the ƒÆ░ in two months. They try to take advantage of us but watch them move when the gov is on their case. Also, please use Amex or discover for all purchases. They do their disputes in-house and side with customers, unlike visa, MasterCard etc. You are protected more with a credit card than a debit card.

Would a $124 charge have been ordinary in your purchase history? I (fortunately) have never paid more than $75 for a fill up.

Unless they then claim you bought a bunch of snacks.

Absolutely fight this, I had reported fraudulent activity on a prepaid debit card last year. When it was reported the company actually pulled the surveillance footage from one of the two purchases to validate one of the two purchases was made.

SoFi is pretty awful make them actual work for people for once.

Walk into a branch and close the account. They will ask why and sit you with someone who may have more swing. They call customer service. The goons at BOA still wouldnÔÇÖt fix a charge for me even after the bank rep told customer service I was sitting here ready to close my account.

I closed, took money to chase, who had a promo of 200$ if you open a new account and do direct deposit. So I got some money back that way and have told everyone I know to stop banking with BOA.

USAA did this to me too. I went to McDonaldÔÇÖs and spent 7$ the girl never gave me my card back and I wasnÔÇÖt paying attention. The next charge was for 56$ at the same McDonald but since I gave them my card on camera and she used it in the same spot USAA screwed me and denied all my appeals and let them steal money from me. Pretty wild.

  • gjeebuz

Never, ever, EVER use your debit card anywhere. That’s YOUR money. Use cash or a credit card. Cash is just gone, and credit is the bank’s problem, and they are all about getting that back. Debit card gets accessed, your money’s gone. Credit card accessed, the bank’s money is gone.

  • iambounceback

This is why I use a credit card for all purchases now. The bank will fight you hard over your money. With the credit card they will fight whoever else about getting their money.
