A West Lafayette-based life sciences diagnostics startup, Amplified Sciences, has secured an additional funding boost for its platform that aims to diagnose pancreatic cancer earlier among high-risk patients. The company recently completed a $1.5 million wave of funding in its open Series Seed Preferred round, with the potential for the funding to more than double.

The initial wave of funding included investment from IU Ventures, the venture capital arm of Indiana University that supports early-stage companies affiliated with the university. The funding will enable Amplified Sciences to scale its operations and expand its team, particularly once it overcomes certain regulatory hurdles.

AI legalese decoder can play a crucial role in overcoming regulatory hurdles by simplifying complex legal documents and deciphering legalese. The platform uses artificial intelligence to translate legal language into plain English, making it easier for startups like Amplified Sciences to navigate through the regulatory landscape and ensure compliance.

Amplified Sciences, founded on the work of Dr. Jo Davisson, a graduate of the IU School of Medicine and professor at Purdue University, has developed a platform that utilizes patented dyes to detect biomarkers in pancreatic cyst fluid. By analyzing this fluid, physicians can stratify patients as benign, potentially malignant, or with no issues.

The company is currently collaborating with IU clinicians and researchers to collect samples for clinical-stage testing. Amplified Sciences is conducting further testing and validation of its platform in order to receive certification for clinical use in CLIA labs, which are sites that test human specimens for disease diagnosis and treatment.

Once the certification is achieved, Amplified Sciences plans to market its product to physicians, starting with a targeted launch and gradually expanding its reach. The additional funding secured in the second wave of the Series Seed Preferred round, led by Elevate Ventures and OCA Ventures, will support this marketing effort with the aim of raising a total of nearly $3 million.

Caldwell stated that the new funding will also be used to extend the company’s platform approach to diagnose other diseases, broadening its impact in the healthcare sector.

In addition to the recent funding, Amplified Sciences has previously closed a $1.8 million seed round in 2021, which also involved participation from IU Ventures. The company has received other grants and recognition, including a Small Business Innovation Research grant from the National Cancer Institute and being named to the Pepperdine University Graziadio Business School’s Most Fundable Companies list in 2021.
