However, due to the anticipated larger attendance at the annual meeting which will be held at Spooky Nook Sports, the chamber decided to consolidate the awards into one significant event.
In the previous year, the 2022 annual meeting took place at Spooky Nook Sports Champion Mill and drew an impressive crowd of approximately 500 attendees. Neil Cohen was recognized as the Citizen of the Year, while Warren & Marian Wohlafka, former owners of SANE (Sewing Aids and Notions for Everyone), were jointly honored as the Small Business Owners of the Year. This year’s combined award ceremony promises an even larger audience, creating a greater impact and recognition for the recipients.
President and CEO Dan Bates expressed his excitement about the new approach, stating, “When we do a separate event, we get nowhere close to several hundred attendees. So, I think it will be nicer to have a larger number of people in the room and combine it with Citizen of the Year, which is also a big deal. We’re going to handle all the big deals at the same time.”
While the exact details of the chamber’s annual meeting are still being finalized, Dan Bates emphasized the importance of recognizing those who have made significant contributions to the community.
