I used an app called PCal (poop calendar) to document about 90 days straight of my IBS. Taking a photo is part of the data input. It all exports to an excel file. ItÔÇÖs one hell of a logbook for symptoms, color, time of passage, etc. All input is prompted by the app.
I turned in the log with my claim, and stated ÔÇ£photos per bowel movement are documented and available upon VBA or c&p examinerÔÇÖs request.
No takers. Won my claim.
I didn’t do any of that. I had my gallbladder removed on Active Duty and months after started experiencing IBS and GERD symptoms pretty heavy. I was seeing a gastroenterologist but she didn’t really believe I had IBS despite meeting every symptom for it.. I decided to claim it anyways and only used my acid reflux medication as evidence and the three visits to the gastroenterologist. At the C&P just explained my symptoms, how often I go, the cramping, the pain after going 6-7 times a day, etc. Two weeks later my claim closed and I received 30% for IBS/GERD

IÔÇÖm rated for IBS at 30% but I had extensive in serivce medical records and current diagnosis. I also filed fibromyalgia secondary to my IBS and was granted it at 40%.
IÔÇÖm 100%P&T due to all my health issues and I have to have colonoscopies and endoscopies every 2 years. Over the years I have been diagnosed with Celiac disease and some other minor issues until my latest one from 7/5/23. My GI doctor gave me some eye opening issues that are of concern.

Pharyngeal lesion/mass found in the pharynx. Referral ENT ASAP for further testing
Small intestine shows Celiac disease.
H pylori – bacteria in the stomach. Antibiotics to fix this first before the PH probe. 30 days of high dose of medications and off heartburn medications for 2 weeks and then stool test. if negative move on to PH probe.
Barretts Esophagus is positive. change in cells. TIF is recommended
PH probe most likely a few months. TIF would come after.
I said all this to say to you that you need to have more tests to EXCLUDE any other major issues.
VA was dicking me around too not giving me diagnosis after so many visits. So I went to my private insurance and setup my PCP. After seeing my VA health record and all the complaints I have, she set me up for an appointment. One appointment later I was given diagnosis with no colonoscopy and just a matter of symptoms exclusion. Now I have my C&P next week for both IBS and Fibro presumptive. I thought it was going to be hard but she said my VA record speak for it already and I should have been given the right diagnosis a long time ago! I didnÔÇÖt even have to come in and I did it through tele health

Ok true story. I just submitted and waiting on decision for gallbladder issues with severe symptoms. What I did was downloaded an app called PCAL poop tracker. I paid the $3 for report capability and I logged in all my poops and printed an excel report with some good detail of all my entries for 3 months. ItÔÇÖs probably the reason why the claim is getting deferred. So I still have some hope ƒÑ│

I have IBS, 30% as secondary to PTSD. I used a private provider to get DX and some treatment notes, before filing the claim. VA didn’t ask for stool sample or anything. They pretty much took private DX at face value. VA recognizes and readily accepts IBS as a secondary to PTSD. Stress/anxiety is one of the most prevalent causes of IBS.
I had the same issue recently, currently filing a supplemental, basically saying the DR was unqualified because heÔÇÖs a geriatric dr not a gastro dr, providing a detailed refutation of his version of the exam, and detailed notes on how often I shit (diarrhea) per day. Also asked my significant other to also write a lay statement stating my shit problems.

I submitted an IBS claim on 7/31. On 8/3 it was closed with no letter. I called today and asked if they combined it with my other claim. The VA rep said no, it looks like they labeled it a supplemental claim by accident but thereÔÇÖs no documentation for why they closed it. ƒñªÔÇìÔÖé´©Å.
