LISBON ÔÇö The Columbiana County Port Authority Awards Bid for Speculative Building Project

The Columbiana County Port Authority Board of Directors recently announced that they have awarded the bid for a speculative building project at the Leetonia World Trade Park. The winning bid of $2,978,338 was awarded to C. Tucker Cope of Columbiana. A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be scheduled after the remaining tasks, such as ordering furniture and completing outside painting, are finished. Traina expressed her excitement, saying, “We are thrilled we have the renovation done.”

The Global Investment Hub project, which initially started in 2019, faced delays due to the COVID pandemic and increasing material costs. Situated in the middle section of the building, the hub is a collaborative effort with the Youngstown State University Small Business Development Center and Export Assistance Network. Its purpose is to attract new or existing businesses in 3D printing, technology, and petrochemical clusters, targeting foreign companies in these areas to establish a presence in the region.

The project received funding from various sources, including $400,000 from the state capital budget and an additional $250,000 secured from the Appalachian Regional Commission. The facility offers several amenities, such as six private offices, three large conference rooms, co-working recreational space, fully-furnished office space, a kitchen area, and restrooms. Companies that join the hub will enjoy one year of rent-free occupancy, complete with WiFi and furnished office space. As a requirement, they must employ a YSU intern for an academic year.

In addition to these updates, the board approved a revision to the 2023 budget, allocating an additional $133,271. The increased funds are necessary to cover the purchase of an additional building for maintenance purposes and rising utility costs, including garbage and telephone fees.

The board also renewed a $1 million CD at Consumers National Bank, securing a new rate of 5.20/5.34 percent for 12 months, compared to the previous rate of 4.16 percent.
