Robert Allen, the newly appointed dean of Utah Valley UniversityÔÇÖs Woodbury School of Business, was recently recognized by the American Accounting Association (AAA) for his exceptional leadership and service during the association’s national convention in Denver on August 9th.
At the convention, Allen concluded his three-year commitment as a leader in the association and received recognition for his roles as president-elect from 2020-2021, president from 2021-2022, and past president from 2022-2023. As a member of AAA for over 30 years, Allen expressed his gratitude for the association’s positive impact on his career and was pleased to give back through his service.
During his tenure as president, Allen prioritized the growth of professorial teaching and research within the association. Despite the emphasis on research, Allen remained dedicated to his passion for teaching and making a difference in students’ lives. Now, as the dean of UVU’s Woodbury School of Business, Allen brings that same passion and commitment to the university, where the focus is on student success.
With 31 years of experience at the University of Utah, Allen is well-equipped to lead and serve the approximately 5,000 students in his college at UVU, alongside 100 full-time and 80 part-time faculty members. The opportunity to impact thousands of lives excites Allen, and he is eager to make a difference at UVU.
One of Allen’s notable achievements during his presidency at AAA was the creation of a new research award in partnership with the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. The award recognizes professors whose research addresses and solves societal problems, aiming to develop the next generation of business and accounting leaders focused on making a positive impact on society.
With the backing of AAA and his extensive experience, Allen is confident in taking UVU and the association to new heights. He values the university’s ability to leverage its resources and believes that UVU is a special place for both students and faculty.
Throughout his career, Allen has received numerous academic awards for his excellence in research and teaching. These accolades include the J. Michael and Mary Anne Cook/Deloitte Foundation award in the graduate category, the AAA/Deloitte Foundation Wildman Medal Award for research with significant influence on accounting practices. Allen plans to apply his experience and commitment to the success of students and faculty at UVU’s Woodbury School of Business, aiming to have a positive impact on students’ chosen fields and society as a whole.
