Cook Government announces funding opportunities for small businesses
The Cook Government has recently announced the launch of four new rounds of the Local Capability Fund (LCF) as well as nine regional rounds, collectively worth over $3 million. These grants are aimed at assisting small to medium-sized local businesses in strengthening their bids for Government and private sector contracts.
The Local Capability Fund (LCF) plays a crucial role in enhancing the capability, capacity, and competitiveness of recipients to supply goods, services, and works to the Government, major projects, and other significant markets. By offering financial support, the LCF enables businesses to improve their chances of securing contracts from both Government entities and private sector clients.
With a total value of $2.2 million, the four new Local Capability Fund rounds for 2023-2024 provide businesses with the opportunity to receive grants of up to $50,000. These rounds include:
- Supplying Key Projects Round: This round supports businesses in supplying goods, services, and works to key Government and private sector projects in priority sector markets.
- Aboriginal Business Round: Designed to assist businesses with majority Aboriginal ownership, this round enables them to supply goods, services, and works to Government and the private sector.
- National and International Standards Compliance Round: This funding opportunity assists businesses in covering the costs associated with engaging external expertise to implement and undergo third-party certification for seven specific national and international standards.
- Digital Transformation Round (upcoming): In the upcoming weeks, the LCF will launch this round to provide initial support to eligible businesses for adopting and utilizing digital technologies and data. Additionally, it aims to deepen the Government’s understanding of the needs relating to digital advancements.
Furthermore, nine regional LCF rounds, totaling $900,000, will be progressively launched throughout 2023-2024. Each round offers grants of up to $20,000, assisting businesses located in regional areas in enhancing their services.
Since its inception, the LCF has provided over $22.7 million in funding to more than 600 businesses. This support has resulted in the successful securing of over $1.05 billion in contract awards, contributing to the creation of over 2,000 employment opportunities and nearly 250 apprenticeships.
