American Heart Association Launches EmPOWERED to Serve Business Accelerator for Maryland Black Farmers

Baltimore ÔÇô In an effort to support the less than 2% of Black farmers in Maryland and address challenges such as food and nutrition insecurity, the American Heart Association, with the support of CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield (CareFirst), is launching a business accelerator focused on farmers for the first time. With farming now being more than just about growing crops, the Vice President of Health Strategies with the American Heart Association of Baltimore & Greater Maryland division, Rhonda Ford Chatmon, emphasizes the significance of supporting Black farmers. The EmPOWERED to Serve Business Accelerator intends to empower Black farmers to do more, emphasizing their commitment to serve their communities.
