ItÔÇÖs a tricky situation when police have as much power and influence as they do to enforce strategies that obviously donÔÇÖt work.

    1. I would research what rights a person has when being strip searched, and any extenuating limitations when it comes to minors. DonÔÇÖt listen to Reddit – go and read the actual law then post any questions for clarification.

    2. If I had my time again as a teen today I wouldnÔÇÖt let any interaction with police go without being filmed by me – this includes a strip search.

    3. If your kidÔÇÖs behaviour is one that may be likely to involve police interactions – and I donÔÇÖt mean illegal, music festivals (though I would expect them to have an adult chaperone), hanging out with friends away from home etc then get them a criminal lawyer and put their number in your childÔÇÖs phone. If they are detained and the police start pressuring them they can say ÔÇ£I think I should call a lawyerÔÇØ

    4. See point two.

[ÔÇÿLEPRAÔÇÖ](http://classic.austlii.edu.au/au/legis/nsw/consol_act/leara2002451/s33.html) sets out the rules for police strip searches in NSW, including of minors. If these arenÔÇÖt followed, in addition to seeking legal advice, options include either complaint to NSW Police Professional Standards Command or to the Law Enforcement Conduct Commission. LECC conducted an inquiry on this topic in 2020 if youÔÇÖd like to read – [here](https://www.lecc.nsw.gov.au/news-and-publications/publications/final-report-an-inquiry-into-nsw-police-force-strip-search-practices-15-december-2020.pdf)

Just a question. What reason would cause the police to consider taking such action?

Or is it suggested the police are strip searching young women for no reason?

    Im curious

I mean obviously prevention is a great step. Don’t be doing things that make police want to strip search you. Doesn’t matter your gender been around people involved in drugs/weapons obviously heightens your chances of being searched.

Police should automatically be using same gendered police officers to search you. So be clear about your gender understanding that will decide the gender of the officer that searches you. If your gender falls outside the classic male/female spectrum, advise police of your birth gender as well.
If you’re transitioning advise them of that as well. I don’t know their policies on that but just be open and communicate in a respectful way and you have best chances of a positive outcome.

Police must provide a private area to strip search you. Be it the back of a police vehicle or something similar, you can insist on that if they ever try anything other then that.

They aren’t allowed to invade your body an internal search is very different from a strip search. They generally don’t touch you if they don’t have to. But they are allowed to under the right circumstances.

Just the basic everyday stuff. It doesn’t matter your age or gender they apply the law pretty equally.

As always you can request a police supervisor review the decision if you have reasonable grounds to challenge them. They don’t have to stop just because you request a review sometimes they will. They can chose to go ahead and have the supervisor review it after, it’s a risk thing for them.

If you think things are unlawful or incorrect, out in the street is rarely the correct situation to challenge an officer. Request names of all officers involved and follow up afterwards.

I’m not a lawyer so that’s all I can think of off the top of my head. Maybe some lawyers will have more Info around things like body cams or being able to request a parent be called etc.
