Earlier this month, FOX23 brought attention to a Greenwood business being broken into and vandalized. The incident, which was captured on camera, showed two men spray painting the surveillance cameras before breaking in and committing several acts of theft and vandalism.

Black Wall Street Bodega owner Angela Robinson, who was the victim of the break-in, expressed the hope for an increase in security measures to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.

Rather than focusing solely on the aftermath of the incident, the community and local leaders are pushing for proactive measures to ensure the safety of businesses in Greenwood.

Robinson said then, how she’s hoping for increased security measures to prevent such racially motivated crimes from occurring in the future.

“I’d like to see TPD patrolling this area, especially when the businesses are closed and better lighting in the front and back of our businesses would be so helpful,” she said.

Alvin Muhammad with the Greenwood Chamber is looking into safety solutions to address the concerns raised by the recent break-in. He is lobbying for a comprehensive approach, including fixing the sidewalks, installing more lighting, increasing police presence, and implementing surveillance cameras to deter and catch potential offenders.

He wants to see the sidewalks fixed, more lighting, a police officer patrolling the area, and flick cameras. He said if there were flock cameras, they could have caught the suspects and prevented the vandalism.
