I dont know, 8 yrs exp on that salary? You have been paid below market rate OP. Have you considered switching jobs?
I don’t know much about your career but having a quick look on Seek a ‘Senior Architectural Technician’ seems to be earning around 90-120k. With 8 years experience, you are definately in the ‘senior’ bracket.
https://www.seek.co.nz/job/70227295?type=standout#sol=2d07f5d36908e4a9447425b0be037e19e3ffa87b
I manage a small retail store and earn more than that. The job is very chill.
I imagine you’re significantly more skilled than me and you job more intense.
68k is a low salary.
IÔÇÖm not sure on Architectural technicians but I know an Architect with 3-4 years of experience earning around 85-90k.
Hi, architectural graduate on 6 years exp here in Auckland. IÔÇÖm at 78k and consider myself a little on the lower side (small firm). Talk to your employer and if they are not willing to meet you at the market rate (which I would think is at least 90k) then jump ship please!!! LetÔÇÖs get paid our worth in this industry! Big jumps in salary is possible if your employer is reasonable. I managed to get a 25% bump in the same company last year.

8 years and only 68k? Holy cow
The average is around 75k to 80k
With overtime the “unskilled” labourers my company employs are on more. (put it in “quotes” because they’re not unskilled).
You should be on much more. An experienced salaried professional in any industry should be on at least 75k/80k in my opinion.
This is really bad for 8 years experience.
I just offered a guy on the benefit $60k for a factory labour job  he has been unemployed for 2 years Turned me down due to the low wage !!
No
Nope
For professional career with 8 years experience that is piss poor. I would be interviewing every 6 months regardless of whether you want to move on to a new role or not. It will give you a better idea of your position in the market.
This is the problem with loyalty – employers take advantage of it!
68K is absolutely horrific for what you’re doing, get a new job lol. I can’t believe you accepted being on 55K after 5 years! I can tell you right now, you’re not an assertive person if you’re letting yourself get this smashed for your livelihood. Grow some balls and talk to your employer or look for another job
I am on 88k with a pathway to 95k+, with approximately the same amount of tenure in the same industry. I am however in the lower south island, so for AKL I’d sat that’s pretty rough and you should be looking at your options.
No
You are getting absolutely reamed.
Mate, there’s people on the service desk who get 55k, that woeful. Not trying to embarrass you but man, you’re not getting enough.
Name and shame the firm. This is wrecked.
I think thats a bad salary for your experience in that industry
They’re paying you $25 an hour and probably charging you out at $125 an hour.
Mate you should move and get a better salary, that’s robbery
No, $68k is only like 20% above minimum wage.
Nope! I’m on a similar experience as you and only have my Design LBP license and I am earning twice. Background: iÔÇÖve moved companies every 2 yrs and with 8yrs experience (almost).
Time to have that conversation with your current employer and see if they will do good by you. If not, time to move.
All the best!
you are massively underpaid – Someone is making a killing off you.
Im on 90k for doing some supervising after 2 years.
For someone without a mortgage, it’s a great wage.
For someone with a mortgage that’s a terrible wage.
i do basic admin for an agriculture company and im on 72 not in akl… id be a bit concerned honestly? being an architect is years of study isnt it?
No, especially not for your responsibilities. My GF who’s an ECE teacher was getting paid about that. She’s moving to primary school where she’ll get a little bump and way better hours and holidays.
