At least 129 people have been tragically killed in an earthquake that struck a remote part of northwestern Nepal overnight on Friday. The devastating tremor caused multiple buildings to collapse, and officials fear that the death toll will continue to rise.

The earthquake, measuring magnitude 5.6 according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), originated around 42 kilometers (about 26 miles) from Jumla, Nepal, in Karnali province. It struck at a relatively shallow depth of 18 kilometers, and its tremors were felt as far as India’s capital, New Delhi.

As of now, the Nepal police have confirmed 129 deaths and 140 injuries, making this the deadliest earthquake since 2015.
