Supporting Local Small Businesses with Grants for Minority, Women, and Veteran-Owned Businesses
The Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce and the Duke Energy Foundation have joined forces to extend a helping hand to small businesses in the community. In their collaboration, they are providing grants specifically designed for local minority, women, and veteran-owned businesses.
To facilitate this initiative, the Duke Energy Foundation has generously donated $75,000 to support the grants. The allocated funds will range in varying amounts, starting from $1,000 and going up to $10,000. Eligible recipients for these grants are businesses with a staff size of 50 employees or fewer, located in Boone, Campbell, and Kenton counties, and are Duke Energy customers.
These grants are aimed at assisting small businesses in fulfilling various essential needs. The funds can be utilized for a range of purposes, such as adapting and beautifying physical spaces, enhancing technology infrastructure, sourcing talent, covering job posting fees, and investing in professional development training. However, it is important to note that ineligible expenses include payroll, incentive pay, rent, and utilities.
The application process for the grants is currently open and will remain so until Tuesday, Oct. 31. To qualify as a minority-owned business, the company must have at least 51% ownership, operation, and control by an individual belonging to one of the following ethnic groups: Asian-Indian, Asian-Pacific, Black, Hispanic, or Native American. Women-owned businesses must also have at least 51% ownership, operation, and control by one or more women, with a woman leading the company’s daily operations. Veteran-owned businesses are defined as having at least 51% of the business directly and unconditionally owned by one or more veterans or service-disabled veterans.
Applicants will have their submissions reviewed by a panel of NKY Chamber members. Grant award winners will be notified prior to a public announcement that coincides with Small Business Saturday on Nov. 25.
