I’ve been serving in the military for a period of 9 years, and during this time, I have faced several medical challenges. Initially, I underwent a hip arthroscopy for one hip, and now it seems that the same procedure is being recommended for my other hip. Moreover, there’s a potential risk of requiring double hip replacement surgery, and I’m only 30 years old. As if that isn’t enough, my back constantly gives me trouble, and every morning, I struggle to put on my boots due to the discomfort. Despite discussing these issues with my doctor on multiple occasions, I always emphasize that I do not intend to pursue a Medical Evaluation Board (MEB) and that I’m willing to take any measures necessary to avoid it. However, the cumulative effect of these challenges is really taking a toll on me both physically and mentally.

At this point, I’m unsure about the purpose of sharing my concerns here, but I suppose it’s partly to vent my frustrations and partly to seek advice. As I mentioned earlier, I have served for 9 years, and apart from my back and hip issues, I also have undiagnosed tinnitus. To be honest youÔÇÖre at 9 years, I had hip scopes at 17 years and just got my 2nd hip replacement at 18.5 years. In my opinion you could get back to world wide qualified and get out of the ÔÇ£cross hairsÔÇØ but putting that kind of stress on an implant is not good. With moderate activity I was given 30 years for my implants. Dual hip replacements would most likely get you 70-83% from the VA. But youÔÇÖre probably going to have work full time to keep up QoL and I mean youÔÇÖre 30. LetÔÇÖs not kid ourselves hip replacements Fn hurt.

It don’t matter if your trying to avoid a meb. I got one thrown at me by surprise I guess right before a TDY. Doc said she wasn’t going to then just coded my ass and I found out in the processing line lol.

MEB ain’t all that bad, give you time to fight it for max benefit to your self and ability to go do something else. I knew what I was doing was going to wear my ass out by 20y (physical or stress). Seeing the older NCOs all ate up and worn down made my decision to fight my way out to retirement (medical).

Read up how your potential condition is rated and see what’s needed for consults or information to get rated appropriately for your benefit.

I still have to work even with retirement and a good rating since I’m under 20y and can’t receive both checks.

Best of luck, know your regulations and hold those making the decisions accountable to whatever directive covers the MEB process.
