    Since you didnÔÇÖt sign the paperwork yet, you donÔÇÖt own the wrong truck and havenÔÇÖt financed the wrong one.

    YouÔÇÖll take the truck they gave you back, theyÔÇÖll give you the correct one, youÔÇÖll check the paperwork against the truck (should have done this one before driving off tbh), sign the paperwork and leave with the right truck.

    If you want this truck, they draw up new paperwork, you sign it and done. Call your insurance to update the VIN

    This happens fairly frequently. I used to be a floorplan auditor for car dealerships, and it seemed like every couple of months I would find the paperwork for a sold car that was still on the lot, and have to figure out which car the customer was actually driving. It was usually less work to have the customer come back for the correct car, but they could also redo the paperwork for the car they had.

    You’re lucky to have caught the issue before you signed paperwork, it will make the deal much easier to correct.

    I will say that vehicle theft is rampant and sophisticated. They are selling new stolen vehicles with swapped or faked vins. Buyers dont find out until warranty recalls if they ever find out. If you keep that truck verify the vin with the manufacturer.

    That happened to me. Dealer called and asked me to return to the dealership for something about a mistake on the paperwork. They wanted the license tags back but didn’t want to tell me that they screwed up. Told them if they touched my car, the police would be called. I though they were trying to get me to resign for a higher interest rate and/or payment. They wanted me to resign a second set of documents with the correct VIN number. Then 90 days later, finance company called and asked why I wasn’t making payments on my second car. It was a CF to get it resolved. The license tags I received were for the wrong car, too. That was merely another chapter in the CF saga.

    Pro tip #1: Verify the VIN number. Trust no one. Including the snotty-nose kid driving your vehicle up to the pick-up door.

    Pro tip #2: Do not sign the second set of paperwork until you have a written proof that the first set had be retracted/voided/canceled/whatever,,,, document for document. Remind them they messed up. Ask for compensation for your time and trouble. Be somewhat reasonable but punish them for messing up. After all, their business is selling new cars. If they cannot do that, then they need to be no longer in business.

    Pro tip#3: If the signed paperwork is for a better car/payment/interest rate, have them provide the better deal and return the less favorable vehicle.

    First, call your insurance agent, broker, company whatever because if you get into an accident you may not have coverage.

    I think you should assume they shipped the wrong car or sold you a different car.

    Once you clear up the problem with insurance, you need to talk to the dealer.

    it might just be an error or it might be an intended deceit on someone’s part. I would think you would have paid more for the car you received than you should have.

    Legally, you are entitled to the truck identified on your sales agreement, with the VIN and features list identified.

    If you received a different VIN, that could be an error. You received someone else’s truck. It might be the same specifications, but it isn’t as identified.

    Either the bill of sale /invoice, etc, needs to be correctly properly, including all legal docs, financing paperwork, or the correct vehicle located and delivered.

    Reading your post further, it appears there was some miscommunication on mileage, etc, on the delivered vehicle. If the mileage was higher, I’d expect some rebate, perhaps some free service or accessories (I do love 2 years free oil changes).

    Most important, get paperwork in order.

    Also, in Ontario a sales agreement is legally binding when the sales associate and the supervising manager signs the agreement. Who gives a shit about thr biz manager they just selling financing and high priced shit and fuck customers.

    That said, in Ontario, a sales agreement MUST identify the VIN.

    It happens a lot. Also many dealership use it as a way to scam people.

    They sale you x car for $xxx you take it home. A week latter they say the sale is invalid since they messed up the Vin. The vehicle is actually $xxxxx more. Come in and sighn new documents or turn thr car in.

    On the meantime your trade in is gone. So you are hosed.

    They will do the same with financing.

    My family has owned car dealerships most my life. I found I am a terrible sales men and had no desire to take over the business when my dad retired (it was a small 20 car dealership)
