“We drive roughly about 34,000 miles a month with all our vehicles,” explains Kinta Carter, head of transportation. Knowing we’re able to help individuals live life to the fullest and achieve their goals is incredibly fulfilling.”

Participants hail from both Loudoun and Fairfax Counties, with many products they create available for purchase online. The organization prides itself on fostering a sense of community while empowering its participants.

The COVID-19 pandemic prompted a significant pivot for ECHO, which previously focused solely on outside employment. In response to the challenges posed by the pandemic, ECHO launched three of its own businesses. Inclusive Solutions now engages in various tasks for external companies, including assembling boxes for Echo Barkery, which produces dog treats. Additionally, the Blue Elegance workshop specializes in crafting exquisite jewelry pieces.

Rachel O’Donnell, one of the artisans at Blue Elegance, shares her enthusiasm: “Earrings are my favorite to make.” The sense of accomplishment and pride she experiences highlights the profound impact ECHO has on its participants.

Retail Skills and New Ventures

ECHO also features a public shop where participants gain valuable retail skills. The organization is continually expanding its product range, with exciting new ventures on the horizon, such as coffee roasting.

“Our mission isn’t going to change,” reiterates Goldien. “We are committed to empowering individuals for life, but each day brings fresh ideas and opportunities.”

As new individuals join the ECHO family, Doolin offers sage advice from his own experiences: “Don’t give up. People might judge those who they think can’t do a job, but they can.
