In a bit of unusual news, Modo Hockey is doing something quite different this week. The team is crowdfunding to raise capital to sign Matias Norlinder, who previously played for the Montreal Canadiens. They’re targeting a fundraising goal of 1 million SEK (approximately $130,000 CAD) and have reportedly raised about $30,000 so far. It’s a rare tactic for a hockey team, and I can’t recall witnessing anything quite like this in my career. It’s fascinating to see a smaller club take such an innovative approach to bolster their roster. Perhaps this effort will create a strong bond between players and fans, giving supporters a sense of ownership over their team’s roster decisions. I’d love to hear your thoughts on this idea; while it seems the NHL likely wouldn’t adopt such a model, it’s certainly entertaining to see it unfold in the Swedish league with Modo.

Lastly, Tomas Hertl is gearing up for his first season with the Vegas Golden Knights. After experiencing an injury-plagued previous season, he’s feeling healthy again, which is wonderful news for both him and the team. If Vegas hopes to be a competitive force this season, they’ll need Hertl performing at his best, alongside some of their other key players who will also need to deliver standout performances. The stakes are high, and this season promises to be thrilling for everyone involved.

Additionally, the anticipation for news regarding names for the Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) is building, and we can expect announcements shortly—likely early this month to align with the NHL’s training camps.
