## Gym Membership Issue: Need Advice

I am not sure if this is the appropriate subreddit for my concern, but I need some advice regarding my gym membership situation. Initially, my membership was divided into two parts – $18.95 for the gym access and $9.95 for the crèche service for my child. After giving birth to my second child, I placed a medical suspension on my memberships. When I was ready to resume my workouts, I informed the gym, and they restarted debiting only the $9.95 for the crèche, while my fob still grants me access to the gym. It has been over a month now, and I expected the charges to return to normal once the maximum suspension period elapsed, but that has not happened.

### How AI Legalese Decoder Can Help

AI Legalese Decoder can assist in this situation by interpreting the legal terms and conditions of your gym membership agreement to determine your rights and the obligations of the gym. It can analyze the contract to clarify if the gym is allowed to back charge you for the weeks that were not debited due to their mistake. With the assistance of AI Legalese Decoder, you can better understand your legal standing and decide on the appropriate course of action to resolve this issue with the gym.

What steps should I take to address this matter? Can the gym enforce back payments for their error, and how should I proceed in this situation? Thank you for any advice or suggestions.

    Innocence is always unsuspicious.

    I would tell no one

Put the amount that you’re not being charged into a savings account each week. Tell nobody.

If they figure it out for themselves push back hard.. but if you end up having to pay just take it from the savings account that you’ve been stashing.

You’ve told them you’re back. It’s not your responsibility to ensure they’re not under charging you. You’ve done your part.

Once got 2 terms of swim lessons for my child for free because of an admin mistake on the facilities end. My wife and I hadn’t noticed that we werent being charged because it was just meant to be an ongoing charge from the first term we attended.
They found me during a lesson eventually, but just said they needed a new payment details form completed, and would only start charging me from then on.

Make them work it out while you workout.

If the gym found out they were overcharging you, they wouldn’t tell you and would keep the money.

Used to work at a gym, unless there’s a reason for us to look into your account, this will very likely go unnoticed. There are hundreds of payments processed each month and most of our energy is spent chasing up missed payments, rarely is someone investigating individual accounts just because.

If they do eventually figure it out, be prepared to either pay it back in installments or forfeit your membership.

Say nothing but expect them to ask for it later

It will probably be found out eventually, and you are most likely have a choice of paying up, or being blacklisted by the gym/franchise/chain.

Hi OP, I work at the gym that you go to. Thanks for highlighting this error – I will have the team here rectify the issue and back date the billing accordingly. Just kidding, I think the answer depends on on what kind of gym. I go to a kickboxing gym and while I don’t owe anybody anything, I really appreciate my coach and how much martial arts has improved my life. If I was underpaying him, I’d most definitely rectify the issue. If it were a large commercial gym, I probably wouldn’t say anything.

  • coffeegirlIII

IMO, the honest thing to do is to tell them they’re undercharging you now that you’ve found out

  • vernacular_wrangler

I would tell them, but that’s because I pride myself on acting ethically.

If you didn’t tell them I guess you could claim ignorance, but be prepared to pay up if you’re found out.

  • Present-Carpet-2996

    Just continue living.

It’s one of those businesses that just reach in and help themselves to your bank account under the guise of “convenience” known as “direct debit.”

If they are helping themselves to less than the agreed amount than so be it, that’s their choice.

  • Dumpling_senpai22

I think that they technically could back charge you for the amount that was missed even if it was an error. I’d tell nobody but have the money available just in case

  • Overitallforyears

Years ago at my old gym , the owners sold it and changed hands .

New owners installed a system u buzz in when entering .
For some reason I wasn’t getting charged  a membership fee ,this went on for 1.5 years till they caught onto it .

When they pulled me up about it , I changed gyms and that was that haha .

  • kai_tai

    I’d tell them.

  • swopagurn

I would probably leave it a few weeks and then tell them – that way they won’t back charge you because you did the right thing by telling them. It’s okay to take a small win like this sometimes!
