You are mid-20’s so I expect you son is still quite young.

The Courts in UK are being told not to send anyone to prison for sentences of under 12 months. And the Probation Service will be recommending a Community Order with the Horizon Programme.

If you have funds, you can do Inform Plus group as suggested by SoozDreamz (but will be a waiting list) or our Safer Lives Programme which is one-to-one and straight in. Stopso is a portal to private practitioners, but always check the credentials and experience of anyone they signpost you to. For free resources, look at the self-help modules on the Stop it Now website.

In terms of you rejoining your family, if your partner wants you home, then I suspect this will be reassessed once Social Care know what’s on your devices. If they have already close date case, then it can be re-opened if you both tell your Probation Officer that’s what you want. This would be after court and sentencing. It is very difficult to predict, but usually these separation are temporary. It also depends on your local authority’s culture – do they have a ‘restorative approach’ or are they more interested in keeping you out of the family.

Inform is a free group based education course for non-offending partners run by Lucy Faithfull Foundation. We charge for our Insight protective parenting programme, but it’s more individual and personalised that Inform. Both are for your partner, and either or both would help in the journey to reunite the family.

But my main words are that you will always be dad to your son and, as long as you keep him in your decision making, the time when you reconnect properly with the family will be sooner. I can’t speak for your neighbours but it’s actually unusual for people to be targeted. For the sake of your family growing up, you might choose to move to a different neighbourhood.

Unfortunately there is plenty of time to find the right pathway. Just because you can’t see it just now, doesn’t mean it’s not there. You just have to make a few turns and climb a few hills unto you see the way through.

It’s hard to know without knowing how old your son is.

Most people in the uk don’t go to prison for a first time offence of possession of iioc. There just isn’t the room. Prison is generally reserved for repeat offenders, those who have thousands upon thousands of category a images, those who plead not guilty when they are, in fact, guilty, those who break their bail conditions by sleeping somewhere where under 18’s are present, people who have also committed distribution or production, and people whose images include those of torture.

Things that will affect whether you get to live with your son again can include:

    If your partner is supportive.

If social services decide your partner is protective or not.

If the images you were looking at/for include lots that were the same age and sex as your child.

    Whether you admit guilt.

Whether probation reports say you’re low, medium or high risk.

Whether you yourself can admit that you are a risk to your child.

    Some general advice:

NEVER say that you are not a risk – your partner should never say this either.

Get yourself onto a course that helps you understand your situation. Lucy Faithfull offer the information plus course for around £800. There may be help with this if that’s a lot to you right now. Your partner should also look into the inform course for partners and relatives, which is free.

Look into sex offender specific therapy. Stopso are good.

If your behaviours around sex in general are problematic, sex addicts anonymous are a good place to contact.

I’m a spouse, we have five children. Boys at 21, 16, 13 and girls at 10 and 3. The social worker reckons kids can be taught to help protect themselves from 10 and that’s when my husband can start the process of moving home. This all depends on his risk level though, we’re still in the process, he has magistrates court on Monday.

I wish you all the luck in the world.
