Man I even got flak in college for using the post 9/11. Had a civilian tell me “wow that must be nice, YOURE welcome.” (In reference to his tax dollars) I said “ya know active duty pay taxes too right? 🤷🏻♂️ haters everywhere man.
My family doesn’t even talk to me anymore. Both parents served 20+ years. Apparently since I got hurt and now am 100 percent I don’t deserve it like they do
When I get my rating, I’m telling my wife because she lives with me and that’s it. You won’t know I’m a veteran. No veteran shirts or hat. No bumper stickers. No license plate. Nothing.
lol my scamming cousin gave me shit for “collecting government bennies”
Sorry to hear that. But concur. I don’t plan to tell anyone. Or get the license plate.
You have people in your life that shouldn’t be then.
Cut them out if your life, surround yourself with people who want you to succeed. Family can be chosen, don’t let circumstances of birth dictate your family.
All these comments about family being the worst, I’m always amazed. I guess I am blessed, since my family (parents, siblings, even cousins) are all incredibly supportive and are openly encouraging, even do their own research and make suggestions about what to claim, what I might qualify for so on and so forth.
lol this is factz however, bro it’s $3800 which is California rent on 2/1 apartments. Get your point though…. Overall
I’ve never told my friends or family members to get their hands out of their pockets. Always seems like a dumb reg to me.
I decided it’s better to keep it a secret. My wife knows my rating and that’s it.

The only people that know my rating are my wife (of 35 years) and my brother that is also 100% rated. My other brother and my three sisters do not know. My parents are passed away. They were both Korea era veterans and should have been rated. Both too proud to file! I was too for 35 years. But there comes a time when the pain outweighs the pride.
If anyone asks me how I manage to make it without working which I do work some. I just tell them I am collecting interest on an investment I made when I was 17. If they ask me what the investment was which they do. I say I can’t tell you because it might jeopardize my rate of return.
I don’t even talk to my family since all my stuff went thru 😭 they were vultures when all I was getting was ssdi so I can imaginneee
Im telling everyone! And if you ask me for money imma tell you im BROKE
I’ve seen the most hate come from other veterans who are too prideful to apply or can’t apply for much disability due to lack of proof. I’ll be the most cautious around veterans. I see how quick the snakes appear when they hear another veteran is compensated.
I my whole family half laughing about it because the balls in their court if they are actually proud of my service
This sub makes me feel pretty lucky of those around me, close friends and family anyway. They all know what I get VA wise. They know my % and they either have been told the amount or are smart enough to go Google it.
Unless they’re harboring some serious resentment they aren’t letting me see, that is. If that’s the case they need to be actors.
My brother’s GF refers to my benefits as “welfare” while she is on food stamps. Haters haters everywhere
Yea screw em. Lots of people seem to think those benefits are some sort of welfare just handed out. We earned that and you’d be an idiot not to use it. Like any other employment benefits.
I’ve heard “must be nice” from people a lot I usually tell them the recruiting office is still open. Always met by some excuse as to why they couldn’t possibly enlist. Family doesn’t mean anything. If we share blood and you’re a shit person we’re not family.
I’m still living in a military city so most people are cool about military service. The only ones who criticize are the ‘woke’ college students that think they’re experts on world affairs. My friends and family have never really been as you describe, thankfully, but I’m sorry to hear that.
I think people will just take advantage of you these days regardless of military or not. There’s basically no middle class anymore so most people will do what they can to get by. I think my service time and my trauma made more solitary anyway. I’m super social, but I’m reluctant to let people get close to me.
Like ok sorry dude lmao.
Just hitem with the Killa Cam “ahhhhhhh you madddddddddd”
Because you can do a financial brexit and be fine paying rent somewhere else, but they gonna be down bad if you leave
They also like to laugh about “how the government doesn’t do anything for veterans” and drool over all the homeless and mentally ill “trained killers.” There are people who really want the worst for us. Don’t tell them anything!
I don’t know who started this nonsense.
Tell anyone you want!
Who cares if they can’t take it or don’t understand the pain you are going through? It’s not like they can do anything about it (Unless they know for a fact that you committed fraud to get your rating).

I tell absolutely everyone (family, friends, co-workers, and even strangers) that I am 100% disabled, retired military, and Civil Service for the US Government making about $23/hour for doing very little work. I don’t live my life concerned what others might think of me.
As a matter of fact I will flaunt my financial status, with zero shame. I had a co-worker make a comment after he was looking at my dump trailer “You can’t hide money!”. I just smiled a proud smile and said “Nope, I can’t hide it all”. I want to buy a brand new truck and get a custom license plate on it that says “VA MONEY”.
