## Frustration with Lockout of Spouse’s CRA Account
I have been responsible for preparing both my spouse’s and my taxes for years now. Today, as is our usual routine, I had my spouse log into their CRA account to automatically import all their tax slips. However, my spouse, true to form, forgot their security answer and entered the wrong one three times, resulting in their account being locked. Now, we have to wait until Tuesday after Easter Monday to attempt to unlock it. I am not surprised by this turn of events, but I am concerned that my spouse may procrastinate unlocking their account, especially considering that contacting the CRA can result in long wait times, especially during tax season.
## Solutions with AI Legalese Decoder
One possible solution to streamline this process could be registering to become my spouse’s tax representative with the CRA. By doing so, I could alleviate the burden on my spouse to log in on demand, and potentially avoid similar lockout situations in the future. This is where the AI Legalese Decoder can come in handy. Additionally, I am curious about any potential downsides or considerations associated with signing up for this role. With the help of the AI Legalese Decoder, I can easily research and understand the requirements and implications of registering as a tax representative, allowing me to make an informed decision on how best to proceed in handling our tax responsibilities.

This is why I always recommend using banking partner sign-in. Fewer IDs/passwords to manage.
Wouldn’t he need to log into his account to authorize you as an authorization?
Ask spouse to call CRA. They’ll be able to unlock after they verify some information
It’ll take you longer to get listed as a representative than it will for him to call and unlock his account.
Register as an authorized representative via [Represent a Client](https://www.canada.ca/en/revenue-agency/services/e-services/represent-a-client.html). You will need to log in with your own CRA credentials and then go through Authorization Requests. You can select the option to have the authorization completed via signature form instead of spouse confirming on their own CRA account. Once the form is uploaded via Submit Documents, it takes roughly 3-5 business days for CRA to approve it. Then you can access the account on the landing page for Rep a Client.
Yes. – Sign up for repID. You might not be able to use it now, but you’ll use it in the future.
If you’re in Alberta or BC you can use the Provincial app to signin (it takes a few days to register for it, but makes things a lot easier imho)

I have this for my husband. Just call CRA and request a rep ID. Once you have it you can add your husbands SIN through an online request.
I called the CRA last Monday and the wait time was about 15 mins.
Call them as early as possible around 8.00 am
Wow. I thought I had relationship problems.
I get locked out every year. It’s my traditional exercise in frustration trying to answer vague and ambiguous questions the government uses to verify myself.
In future, log in through your bank. If you screw that up it is much easier to reset.
Use the CRA callback request. It won’t be too bad to get a return call.
My parent locked themselves out of their CRA account recently, and they were able to unlock it right away using the Interac instant verification process. You’d have to log in using partner/bank’s credentials and follow the steps
Are you me and my partner because this happens every year lol. I will say I tried getting authorized for my partner’s account earlier this year and it said he had to go in and approve but he never got the request. I may have done something wrong though.
Adding yourself as a rep is great idea in general, OP.
But the representative process where you have your spouse sign the documents and you upload will take 28 business days.
The second is for them to agree in the my account.
It’s best they call CRA on Monday, as they’re open, and will likely be faster than on Tuesday.
Just wait till Tuesday… call them to get it unlocked. Lol I think you are a little too concerned about this.
I did the same. Locked the CRA login from wrong answers. No point in phoning unless you want to wait on hold for three hours.
I can still log in using the bank or the BC services app methods.
I have a representative for my account.
The cra website seems like it’s designed to lock you out.. I’ve been locked out so many times, such a hassle. Sorry that happened, I feel your pain
