Royalties is considered income.

That is income. Songwriters never receive their due credit. Keep writing!
Are you on SSI? I am, I also baby sat a child for years and I could only charged 500. I just went through looking all of this again, because I opened an Etsy shop.
You can only earn like 500 a month. If you earn more they will deduct it, or you have to send them the money. I just investigated all this because I make jewelry and other art, because opened an Esty shop.
This might help (program for SSDI folks who work) – “Ticket to Work”

Any type of asset that can be liquidated into cash will count as income, except for the basic exclusions like house, car, furniture. SSDI has higher earning and asset limits than SSI, and there is also a rule related to whether the income is regular. Basically what it says is you can earn so much a month, if you go over that your benefit can be affected, you have a work period of 9 months out of 60 months where you can earn as much money as you want and still receive benefits, if you make substantial earnings from work income regularly that is considered gainful employment, if you lose your job within a 3 year period they will automatically reinstate your benefits. So I assume if you are working and make more money than they allow for a period of longer than three years you would have to reapply for benefits. They will also deduct work expenses from your income required to maintain employment. The link below explains all the rules related to Social Security and working. But yes anything you receive as cash or compensation can be counted. I dont think SSDI counts unearned income toward the limit, so if you can find out what that includes maybe its in there.
