Struggling with the Stigma of Being Loyal to Someone on the Registry
Dealing with the stigma of being loyal to someone on the registry has been a significant challenge in our society. The impact has been far-reaching, leading to the loss of friendships and a withdrawal from family. The harsh reality is that the stigma associated with sex offenses is much more severe than that of any other crime. This has made it incredibly difficult to find support and a sense of community.
Unfortunately, traditional support groups such as prison wives groups or community supervision support groups are not viable options for me. I fear that if I were to engage with these groups, the stigma associated with sex offenses would rear its ugly head and result in judgment and ostracization. This has left me feeling incredibly isolated and alone.
In this time of need, I reach out to the ladies of this group who, like me, continue to stand by their partners. How are you coping with the challenges and stigma? If you find yourself lacking support and understanding from those around you, I encourage you to use this thread as a means of connecting with a community who can offer the support and empathy you so desperately need.

Please forgive me if IÔÇÖm not the response you are looking for, but as an SO whose wife has stood besides him. Her love alone has willed me to be a better man. And I try to do the next right thing everyday. You all are saints
I am lonely, by choice. I cut out anyone who has rude things to say. They are entitled to their opinion, they arenÔÇÖt entitled to my emotion space. I donÔÇÖt condone what my fianc├® did, but heÔÇÖs more than a charge heÔÇÖs a whole person.

I understand where you are coming from. I one time posted in a prison wives group about some the stress and anxiety of it all and it was immediately people saying to leave him, backlash, how their own trauma with SA means everyone like that is horrible, etc. This group helps me feel like I’m not the only one trying to navigate these and seeing other significance others here really helps.
Some days it gets to me, others I am strong. The hardest thing for me, well 2 things actually, the criticism for staying because of our 4 kids and being branded some kind of horrible mother and the loss of church community that I have had my entire life.
My husband is more than his poor choices, sadly that’s all some people see. He’s working hard on himself but very few are left to see it. Thankfully we have both sides of immediate family and a few friends and they keep us going. But our circles now are probably 1/10th of what they used to be. It’s hard going from pretty popular and well liked to this.
I am appreciative of this online space. It reminds me I’m not alone!
I completely agree with keepswimming08ÔÇÖs statement you ladies are saints! While I am only engaged to my lady she keeps me focused and striving for continued better days. She has two very loving daughters who know of my crime and they know who I am now! I love them as if they are my own and think of them bo less than. Keep your head up! I am sure your husband truly appreciates you sticking with him through all this. Even though I am a guy I am here for everyone in here to vent to!

IÔÇÖm breaking the news to my parents tomorrow about my spouseÔÇÖs charge and guilty plea. The raid was last December, but there was so much waiting and unknowns that we couldnÔÇÖt really let them know what was going on until now. His sentencing wonÔÇÖt be for another month or two, but I hope that my parents will respond with love and kindness. I will be devastated if they donÔÇÖt.
I knew about his conviction and the circumstances surrounding it when we met, so I knew what I was getting into, which felt a lot more tolerable than being blindsided by a search warrant.
He was already far into treatment and probation and let me read his forensic psych report to get a better understanding of everything. That helped me explain his conviction to other people, in turn. IÔÇÖve made a few posts about my observations doing so because pretty much everyone IÔÇÖve told has been supportive and understanding of our situation.
ItÔÇÖs very difficult sometimes. My heart hurts sometimes. I wish he hadnÔÇÖt done what he did, but also love the person he chose to become in spite of it.
I try and stick to statistics and psychological studies rather than peopleÔÇÖs opinions. ThereÔÇÖs never a moment it doesnÔÇÖt ache a little, though.
Our life is so peaceful and good, something I couldnÔÇÖt fathom before he came into my life, and thatÔÇÖs my main focus over everything else.
I’ll just throw my username out there.
Still standing with my bf

My ex wife and I ended because of my crime. I lost all my friends. I currently live with my parents and am eternally grateful for their love and support. I did start talking to a woman, who knows everything, and she said to me ÔÇ£youÔÇÖre not a bad man, you made a bad decision.ÔÇØ While weÔÇÖre not together, I can appreciate any SO who has a partner as it does mean the world to us to have that support.
My husband was arrested few months ago on federal charges. Ive lost friends and family by standing by him. But, Im okay with that we still have a good circle of support. However, its all still been extremely difficult. Even with support Ive still felt so alone. My husband also cant come home while awaiting what we know will most likely be years in prison. But I still get to see him at his parents house so at least we get that. I think because Im educated in psychology and addiction as Im an addiction counselor it has been easier for me to be open minded. But still hurts, for the first 3 weeks he was in jail I was in shock, couldnt sleep or eat. Hid in my house. Tbh, I didnt really tell anyone. Most people even my family didnt find out until 6 weeks later when it started getting posted on social media. Ive got the he deserves to rot in jail and the disappointment txts of standing by him. I know finding this group has helped me when there are days idk if I can keep going. We are in the beginning with federal charges hes got many years over his head. We are hoping our attorney can get a plea with just possession and the other charges dismissed but idk. Even then most people Ive talk to said that will most likely be 5 years I would lie to say Im not scared that Im about to have to live without my husband and what thats going to do to our marriage i see a lot of comments of meeting your loved one after they served their time, ect. Anyone in here who stayed the entire sentence?
I started dating someone who is a RSO. He is serving his sentence now and IÔÇÖm beginning to tell members of my family. I love him and care so much for him but am struggling telling people. He has been in treatment for a while and told me everything several weeks after we started dating. I truly love the person he is and am dreading especially telling my parents. His family is supportive which makes me feel better but I donÔÇÖt see them ever. I feel like we have such a strong connection after 6 months of dating and I canÔÇÖt imagine my life without him. I just want my family to see that he is a good person but understand it might take time.
My SO is an RSO and he told me everything from day 1 of us talking. We met on a Christian dating site and I was honestly surprised that he was so forthcoming when we spoke. It was a breath of fresh air, to have someone be so honest from the start. It’s ironic because most of the other men on that site, were liars and cheaters, and not what I would call “christian”. Anyways… my therapist said something to me that really stuck out. She said “there are people who have done bad things before and they have become good people…and there are good people out there who are going to do bad things”.
So he and I have been together for 1.5 yrs. My family went and did a background check on him and came to me with “the news”. Only it wasn’t news, and it wasn’t new to me. I KNEW his background already and the only ones who were in shock were them. Shocked that I could date such a man!
We live 1.5 hours away from one another and he commutes to me every weekend. He is the most affectionate man I have ever been with. He really listens to me and is understanding and loving and considerate. I feel like I found the love of my life and my best friend. I can’t even begin to express how much fun he and I have together.
My family(parents and siblings) get super quiet when I bring up his name in conversations and mums the word. It’s really awkward. I am so pissed that they did a background check on him, but I also am relieved that his background isn’t a secret to anyone. I think the thing that bothers me the most is that they are religious and God commands us to love one another. We aren’t to judge one another. Their behavior has really made me look at them in a whole different perspective. I hope they can find it in their hearts to stop the judgments and get to know this man that has truly won my heart.
