He doesn’t have the same driver license number as he had back then, but they said his SSN and DOB were in the files that were breached. It’s irritating, you’d figure after more than 20 years, they would have destroyed old files.
My husband signed up for the credit monitoring. We also have identity theft protection through homeowners insurance and also through my job. We’ve dealt with identity theft before and there’s a point at which you just have to let it go because it becomes impossible to keep up with it all.

Without SSN? They have to dig. But my concern is that the data does include SSN.

About the time I was ready to mail them, my wife got a letter from the IRS stating that somebody had used the online IRS FAFSA tool using her credentials. That’s how the fraudsters used my wife’s SSN (that’s she’d given the hospital 20 years earlier) to get enough information to file a fraudulent tax return. I blame Congress because (to my recollection) the IRS had reported concerns with the security of the FAFSA tool, but Congress had not allowed them total action to fix the tool nor to shut it down.
There has been no evidence of any other suspected fraudulent activity using our SSNs since.
