I had the same with my Dutch license for mistakenly going through a red light.
Received a letter and called the dept at the city where I committed the offense.
I went there in person and explained that a driver license is a doc of the gov of the Netherlands so they put a sticker on the back with a note that I canÔÇÖt drive in Germany for 1 month (it went in effect the day after because I needed to drive back).

Afaik normally the driving bans Germany will give are only valid in Germany. Though they might impact your insurance (if they ask if you ever had a driving ban you’d have to answer yes).
As for sending in your license: it kind of depends, some of the places in Germany will accept it if you (e-)mail them a copy of your license. Some won’t and you’d have to physically mail it or go there yourself. In the latter case it’s sometimes possible to negotiate that the ban only takes effect the day after they put the ban sticker on your license, so you can still drive out of Germany.

I have been in this situation 15 years ago. Laws might have changed.
1) no, the German justice dept only has jurisdiction in Germany. You drive in the UK as a British citizen then you can’t be in breach of the German law.
2) no, but until you get the stamp from the German office you have a driving ban in Germany. Do pay the fine tho. Not paying the fine can lead to being indicted, and subsequent nastiness.
3)you go to an office give your license, and they will print on the card that you have a one month driving ban starting and ending at x date.
I know some one that got a request for his license for a 1 month driving ban in germany for speeding and he just send them a copy of it and never ever heard anything about it after that.
