I was the same in highschool and honestly wish I could go back. Money will come and go especially after moving out and paying bills.

Work hard….with a purpose. If you’re working just because you think you should then that might not be the best move. If you’re working to obtain a skillset that can better future you, that’s awesome. If you’re working to save money to further invest in yourself, that’s awesome. Your job should be tied to better your future position in some way and\or if it’s the difference between eating or not eating then yes, do the job and fill your tummy now and worry about spiritual fulfillment later.
Somewhere in your mind realize that your actions are a step to your future and a lot of time you make the best call that you can make with the information that you have. If you have a goal to work for that can help add context to your decision making process that will lead you towards more desirable outcomes.

That being said I loved working through high school. I regularly worked 20-30 hours a week. I didnÔÇÖt need to since my family was well off but it was basically me and my 3 best friends running a kitchen every night and then burning all the money we made on cheap booze and parties. Having some 50 year old lady let us bum Marlboro reds off of her for our work breaks. Honestly was a great time.
DonÔÇÖt give up experiences just so you can have a little bit of money because honestly whatever youÔÇÖre making in high school isnÔÇÖt a ton compared to once youÔÇÖre out of college anyways.
I had an attitude like yours. Then I went to Myrtle Beach with some guys. It was fun.
I worked full time since I was able to because we didnÔÇÖt have any spare money and I had to pay for my car insurance gas college etc. That said I wouldnÔÇÖt want my kids doing that because as everyone else had said you have your whole life to work and we have the ability to provide those extra things for them. I will say that because I had no connections and was a first gen college student the working was probably what saved my ass and got me to where I am but if youÔÇÖre relatively well off (upper middle class and up?) you likely wonÔÇÖt need to kill yourself as a kid to be a successful adult. IÔÇÖd say 2 4-6 hour shifts a week is plenty for just some extra spending money and keep some work experience on the resume
Up to you. I worked roughly 25 hours a week in highschool at a crappy buffet but I met a ton of people and enjoyed them so it was kind of worth it even though the job sucked. I think 15 hours a week is a pretty fair balance, hopefully 3 shifts so you have more time on weekends.

Once you finish schooling, 80+% of your waking life will involve or revolve around working. I look back fondly on my time as a student now. Enjoy all the breaks/time off they give you in school (summer, spring, winter holidays, etc.). I get 10 days off a year, not including holidays. I would kill for a student’s schedule again at this point. Working full time SUCKS. Working while doing schooling full time also sucks.
The money you make and save now will look like peanuts in hindsight. It’s absolutely not worth it at your age and income, unless you have very specific needs and used for this money now. An apartment in the future is a good reason, but i wouldn’t be thinking about it this much at your age.
Dont listen to any of these people. Work as much as you can and start investing early. Do things right and youll be retired by 50.

Trust me . Future you will thank yourself . I worked A LOT when I was younger , and i was able to pay off a lot of things in cash that a lot of my friends needed loans for .
