Barry Crago Recognized as Legislator of the Year for Improving Wyoming’s Business Environment

SHERIDAN ÔÇö The efforts of Rep. Barry Crago, R-Buffalo, to improve WyomingÔÇÖs business environment have earned him recognition from the Wyoming Business Alliance (WBA) as a legislator of the year.

WBA President Cindy DeLancey stated that the legislator of the year award is presented annually to two Wyoming legislators who exemplify “free market principles and business in Wyoming.” Crago is joined by Senate President Ogden Driskill, R-Devils Tower, as this yearÔÇÖs recipients. The approximately 400 members of WBA nominate and vote on legislators for the award.

DeLancey highlighted that both Crago and Driskill have played a significant role in reducing government influence and regulations in business, which in turn creates a more business-friendly environment in Wyoming. Such initiatives have helped the stateÔÇÖs economy thrive and remain competitive with neighboring states. Fewer regulations also provide business owners with the flexibility to cater to their customer base effectively.

DeLancey emphasized that each region in Wyoming has unique characteristics, stating, “WeÔÇÖre really not a one-size-fits-all state. Because what works in Sheridan might not work in Cheyenne, what works in Cheyenne might not work in Lusk.”

Crago expressed his focus on keeping the government out of the way of businesses, emphasizing that reducing regulations leads to a more successful economy. This, in turn, creates better-paying jobs for the people of Wyoming, benefiting the entire state.

The legislator’s business-friendly approach stems from his understanding that small businesses play a vital role in Wyoming’s small communities. Crago believes that without these businesses, small towns would fade away. As per the U.S. Small Business Administration, 98.9% of businesses in Wyoming are classified as small businesses.

DeLancey praised Crago for his expertise in understanding the needs of the small business community and his ability to promote legislation that supports and advances it. Crago’s firsthand experience as a small business owner operating his family’s ranch near Kaycee and owning a law firm in Buffalo provides him with a unique perspective when voting on legislation that could impact small businesses.

Both Crago and Driskill will receive their awards at a banquet during the GovernorÔÇÖs Business Forum in Laramie on November 14.
