OneSpartanburg Inc. recently held its 2023 Annual Celebration, themed “The ‘Burg’s Bright Future,” at Indigo Hall. The event marked a significant milestone for the organization as it highlighted a year’s worth of accomplishments, recognized outstanding community leaders and businesses, and looked ahead to the promising future of Spartanburg.

The Power of Collaboration

During the celebration, OneSpartanburg Inc. President and CEO Allen Smith emphasized the importance of collaboration in driving growth and development in Spartanburg. He acknowledged the transformative announcements of the past year and expressed gratitude towards the public and private partners who contribute to the organization’s efforts. Smith stated, “Business, economic, and tourism development all require collaboration between public and private partners. Award-Winners of 2023

One of the highlights of the Annual Celebration was the recognition of exceptional individuals and organizations that have made significant contributions to Spartanburg’s progress. The award-winners of 2023 were:

Neville Holcombe Distinguished Citizenship Award:

Russell Booker, CEO of the Spartanburg Academic Movement, received this prestigious award for his exemplary leadership in education. Booker’s commitment to improving future outcomes for students and for the entire Spartanburg County community was recognized and celebrated.

James B. Thompson Small Business of the Year:

Shelley Wildenstein, owner of Signs and Designs, was honored with this award for her remarkable achievement in growing her business from a one-woman operation to a successful team of six. Wildenstein was also acknowledged for her dedication in supporting other small businesses in establishing themselves.

Economic Champion Award:

The City of Woodruff, represented by Mayor Kenneth Gist and City Manager Lee Bailey, received the Economic Champion Award. Their efforts in attracting locally-driven investment and major projects, such as BMW Plant Woodruff, were recognized and applauded.

Elaine Harris Tourism Champion Award:

Spartanburg County Parks and Recreation, along with Director Jon Woodsby, were acknowledged for their significant role in promoting tourism and attracting more visitors and sports events to Spartanburg County.

Duke Energy Citizenship and Service Award:

Laura Ringo, Executive Director of PAL: Play. Advocate. Live Well!, was honored for her notable contributions to Spartanburg County’s trail system. Ringo’s commitment to enhancing outdoor amenities and improving health outcomes for residents was commended.

Chairman’s Award:

Spartanburg County Administrator Cole Alverson was recognized with the Chairman’s Award for his exceptional leadership and dedication in making the county a better place to live and do business.

Minority-Owned Businessperson of the Year:

Kay Bishop, owner of Sparkle City Balloon Boutique, received this award in recognition of her success in turning her passion for event organization and d├®cor into a thriving small business.

Young Professional of the Year:

Emma McDaniel, an associate at McDaniel & Co., a commercial real estate firm, was celebrated for her professional growth and contributions in helping fellow young professionals connect better with Spartanburg.

Daniel Morgan Business Advocates:
